The point where Fahrenheit = Celsius

Churchill, MB - Coldness continues throughout much of Eastern Canada! In fact, strong northernly arctic flow are streaming from the Arctic through most of Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Northwest Ontario, into Quebec and Maritime Provinces. The "stream" of this Arctic Flow is bringing pesky northwesterly winds at around 5 to 20 km/h. Though 5-20 seems a pretty small amount of wind speed, however combined with such cold temperatures, the winds are going to make a difference.

The cold air mass that is originated from the areas north of the Arctic Circle, has a centre temperature of around -30 C. This air mass is now sitting over much of Manitoba, affecting Manitoba itself, as well as surrounding provinces and territories. The centre of the air mass is approximately near Churchill, Manitoba, and the locale as a current (as of 19:00 CST) a temperature of -28 C, and with wind chill, temperature can easily go down to -50 C.

This bulk of cold air is streaming its way down to the south at 5 to 20 km/h, bringing the cold air with them as well as the wind chill. Though the Arctic air had warmed up a slight bit as it reaches Winnipeg, Manitoba, the locale still has a current temperature (as of 19:00 CST) of -25 C. The wind chill value with that 5-20 km/h of northwesterly wind could reach below -40 C, or approximately the point where the Fahrenheit scale is equal to the Celsius scale.

Surrounding communities have wind chill values (i.e. near Dolphin, MB), near -45 C. Wind chill warnings, and in some cases, blowing snow warnings had been issued. Towards Saskatchewan, same story but with a slightly milder temperature. In Alberta, a rebounding southernly flow is incoming, making their conditions not as worse. This cold air mass is continuing to invade much of Ontario and Quebec. The Windsor-Quebec City corridor should expect nighttime lows around -18 C to -10 C tonight, with wind chill values around -25 C to -15 C.
